bkool: Slanted Door restaurant in the Ferry Building (make reservation in advance, e.g. online from OpenTable): excellent fresh sea food, asian fusion Take a wine tour (by bus), make reservation online. Alcatraz is a tourist trap, can easily skip it. A lot of good sushi. Nice Italian restaurant in the Villa Florence hotel (forgot the name, google) Girardelli square (okay chocolates) walk alot. good shopping.

bkool: You can walk evrywhere in the downtown area... it is not very large but hilly. From Union square to Ferri Building is about 30 minute walk, and another 30 minutes to the Fisherman's warf (left from the building). Alioto's is a reasonably good Italian restaurant at the warf, good fresh seafood. Scoma's is another popular place but can be difficult to get in.

bkool: Do you have a girlfriend who works downtown? I talked to a young lady today who is going to SF and I think she is staying in Haytt near Union Square as well. I recommended the Slanted Door restaurant to her too.
